World Bank President Ajay Banga has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Sudan’s reconstruction and recovery. He commended ongoing coordination with Sudanese authorities and confirmed the Bank’s readiness to begin interventions within the next two months, focusing on projects in health, education, and environmental management.
During meetings held in New York on the sidelines of the World Bank’s Annual Meetings, Sudan’s Minister of State for Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, said the country is progressing toward civilian governance while implementing reforms to stabilize the economy and strengthen institutions.
The discussions also highlighted the Bank’s wider plans for Africa. Banga announced a new initiative aimed at transforming the agricultural sector by improving infrastructure, strengthening partnerships between the private sector and smallholder farmers, and creating sustainable employment. The program seeks to reach 250 million farmers by 2030.
Officials noted that Sudan’s inclusion in future development frameworks will depend on continued political stability and reform implementation, which the World Bank views as essential to unlocking full-scale support.
