Ambassador Muhi al-Din Salem Ahmed officially assumed office as Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, taking the oath of office before the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Prime Minister Kamil Idris was also present at the ceremony.
Addressing reporters after his swearing-in, the new minister congratulated the Sudanese people on the successes of the armed forces and popular mobilization, framing his mandate as one rooted in peace diplomacy. “We carry a message of peace to all who are ready for peace,” he declared.
Salem emphasized that the world and the region are undergoing rapid changes, and that Sudan’s foreign policy must evolve accordingly. He pledged to steer the ministry with flexibility and openness in order to achieve the aspirations of Sudan’s people.
He further underscored Sudan’s determination to defend its sovereignty in international and regional arenas, stressing that attempts to undermine the country had long preceded the current war. “Whatever conspiracies we face,” he said, “Sudan will prevail.”
