Sudan’s Mahmoud Shanteer Named to FIFA 2026 World Cup Refereeing Panel

FIFA’s Referees Committee has selected Sudanese official Mahmoud Shanteer to be part of the officiating team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The appointment places Shanteer among Africa’s top referees chosen for the tournament.

The African contingent also features Amin Omar of Egypt, Omar Artan of Somalia, Dahane Beida from Mauritania, Mustapha Ghorbal of Algeria, Ismail Mahmoud of Sudan, Jalal Jayed of Morocco, Pierre Atcho of Gabon, Jean-Jacques Ndala of Congo, and Senegal’s Issa Sy.

As part of the final preparations, African referees will join their counterparts from the Asian Football Confederation for a training camp in Doha, Qatar, scheduled for 23–27 February 2026.
