Sudanese Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Mining Practices in Northern State

The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, in partnership with the Mineral Economy Security Department and the Mining Security Police, has launched a large-scale campaign targeting violations in the mining sector across Northern State.

The crackdown resulted in the confiscation of more than 150 thiourea mixers, as well as quantities of thiourea, cyanide, and activated carbon. Authorities explained that these materials were being used to process gold ore in unsafe and unregulated ways, posing serious risks to the environment, public health, livestock, and the economy.

The campaign also dismantled illegal gold extraction ponds in the Al-Khannaq market in Abri, Halfa locality. Abdelrahman Mahjoub Al-Nazif, head of the company’s Northern State office, confirmed that police reports had been filed in Dongola and that the seized items were handed over to the prosecutor. He emphasized the campaign’s role in protecting communities and ensuring sustainable mining practices.
