Sudan, Turkey Revive Kalanayeb Electricity Project in Red Sea State

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has confirmed that work will resume on the second phase of the Kalanayeb Electricity Project in Port Sudan, following high-level talks with Turkish energy firms.

Energy Minister Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed met representatives from Simyokntr and Lamatak to discuss restarting the long-delayed project, stressing its vital role in supplying eastern Sudan with power. He noted that financing had been secured through the African Export-Import Bank, clearing one of the main hurdles to progress.

Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz welcomed the move, reaffirming Ankara’s readiness to support Sudan’s energy sector. He emphasized that Turkey’s global expertise in energy would be mobilized to help Sudan rebuild its infrastructure after years of conflict.
