The Transitional Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, on Sunday received a delegation from the Sudanese Workers Trade-Unions Federation (SWTUF) at his office in Port Sudan, where they discussed issues affecting workers in both the public and private sectors.
Following the meeting, the Federation’s President, Dr. Sirr al-Khatim al-Amin Abdul Qadir, said they briefed the Prime Minister on the return of unions after the issuance of Constitutional Decree No. (4) of 2025, which restored the trade union movement and allowed the Federation to exercise its role fully in accordance with the law.
Dr. Sirr al-Khatim underlined the Federation’s role in “trade union diplomacy” at Arab, African, and international levels, noting their efforts in presenting Sudan’s concerns and developments.
He explained that discussions also covered ways to advance the Union’s work in the coming period, including the tripartite dialogue between unions, the government, and employers. He said the Prime Minister pledged to support the Union’s programs and to address workers’ issues, particularly those that emerged during and after the war.
The meeting also touched on the activation of the “Workers’ Food Package,” handled by the Workers’ Bank under the supervision of the Bank of Sudan and 17 other banks. The package provides basic commodities to public sector workers through their union branches. Dr. Sirr al-Khatim said the Prime Minister promised to give the matter due attention and sponsor the project.
