Over a Thousand Feared Dead as Landslides Bury Village in Darfur

A humanitarian tragedy has struck Central Darfur’s Jebel Marra region, where landslides caused by torrential rains have obliterated an entire village.

The Sudan Liberation Movement’s civil authority reported that Tarsin village, home to more than a thousand people, was buried under cascading earth and rocks on Sunday. Only one survivor has been found so far, raising fears of a death toll surpassing 1,000.

The fertile citrus-producing area of Tarsin is now a scene of devastation. Local authorities have urgently appealed to the UN and international relief groups to support recovery efforts and help retrieve the bodies of the victims.
