Energy Minister Reports Massive Transformer Losses Amid Militia Looting

Sudan’s Energy Minister, Eng. Advisor Al-Mutassim Ibrahim, disclosed that the Rapid Support Forces militia looted and destroyed more than 14,000 electricity distribution transformers in Khartoum State, with nationwide losses surpassing 60,000 units.

During talks in Cairo with El Sewedy Group executives, Ibrahim urged the company to accelerate efforts to resume transformer production in Sudan, stressing the urgent need to restore power to war-affected areas. He emphasized that rebuilding the electricity sector is a central priority for the ministry.

El Sewedy Group Chairman Ahmed El Sewedy pledged full support, while Board Chairman Eng. Walid El-Deeb revealed that rehabilitation of the company’s Sudan factory is already underway. Once operational, the facility will focus on repairing and producing distribution transformers critical to Sudan’s recovery.
