Banks Instructed to Reopen In Khartoum

Member of the Sovereign Council and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Civilians population to Khartoum, Gen. Ibrahim Jabir Ibrahim, has given directives to the Central Bank of Sudan and the commercial banks to expedite procedures for re-opening of their branches in the capital by mid-September.

During his address in Khartoum on Thursday, marking the opening of the Obeid Khatim branch of the National Bank of Omdurman, Jabir pointed to the people urgent need for banking services, particularly in financing economic projects to mitigate the effects of the war, including people’s displacement and taking refuge outside the country.

The Sovereign Council member has emphasized the state’s keenness to implement a policy of electronic transfers between various bank accounts in Khartoum State as soon as possible, to get rid of the use of paper money due to its disadvantages and the high cost of printing currency.
