African Development Bank Allocates USD 420 Million in Grants to Sudan

The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that Sudan is currently benefiting from African Development Bank grants worth about USD 420 million, supporting a range of ongoing development projects across the country.

Speaking during a meeting with an AfDB delegation, Undersecretary Mohamed Bashar disclosed that negotiations are continuing over new grant-funded projects valued at more than USD 200 million. He said these initiatives are being shaped around the government’s immediate and medium-term priorities.

According to Bashar, funding priorities include basic services, food security, infrastructure rehabilitation, institutional capacity-building, and productive sectors that can sustain peace and drive economic recovery. He emphasized that the grants are part of the Bank’s Sixteenth Grant Cycle, highlighting the AfDB’s central role in Sudan’s development efforts.

AfDB officials reiterated their commitment, with Country Director David Mutoko stating that Sudan remains a key focus for available financing. Regional Director Alexander Daniel added that recent field visits confirmed the scale of needs created by the war, reinforcing the Bank’s resolve to support Sudan during this critical period.
