Diplomatic sources report that the United States is preparing “decisive measures” aimed at ending the war in Sudan before the end of the year. This comes after President Donald Trump stated that Washington is working to halt the conflict following a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The move signals a significant escalation in U.S. engagement with the crisis.
According to an African Union official and a Western diplomat, the U.S. is operating under a three-track strategy that covers military, humanitarian, and political avenues. These efforts are described as intensive and coordinated with regional and international actors. Washington appears focused on tightening pressure across multiple fronts.
Sources quoted by Al Arabiya say the planned measures resemble actions previously used against the Syrian regime. They include expanded restrictions, asset freezes, and rapid sanctions targeting individuals and networks responsible for fueling the violence. In parallel, preparations are underway for a comprehensive accountability file centered on crimes committed in Darfur.
A Western diplomat dismissed recent claims that the Sudanese army had received a new ceasefire proposal. He clarified that the army chief received only a response from the Cairo-based coordination team and added that the general “now understood everything,” hinting at a shift in the military’s perception of the international process.
