Sudan Central Bank Moves to Launch Electronic Clearing System Soon

The Central Bank of Sudan confirmed that work is underway to activate the electronic clearing system within the next few days. Governor Amna Mirghani, speaking during a visit to Gezira State, emphasized that the country’s economic challenges are as intense as its ongoing security struggles. She pointed to the extensive damage inflicted on national infrastructure and the banking sector, outlining a recovery plan that includes support from regional and international financing partners.

Mirghani called on the Gezira State Government to prepare solid feasibility studies for projects seeking financial backing. She also discussed plans for financing the upcoming agricultural season in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. According to her, restoring financial services and rebuilding banking operations is a central priority for the Bank.

The Governor noted efforts to expand microfinance institutions and establish new branches across Sudan’s states. She revealed that the Central Bank plans to resume full operations from Khartoum within a month, following assessment visits to Nile River and Khartoum states and upcoming trips to the remaining regions.

The Acting Governor of Gezira State applauded the staff of the Bank’s Wad Madani branch for returning to work immediately after the city’s liberation. He highlighted improving security and economic conditions, ongoing industrial and agricultural initiatives, and the need to remove obstacles that hinder development financing. The Governor of the Gezira Scheme also briefed the delegation on winter farming preparations and praised the Bank’s recent decision to waive credit inquiry fees.
