Khartoum Airport Reopens After Two-Year Closure Due to War

The Khartoum International Airport officially resumed operations on Wednesday after more than two years of suspension caused by the war in Sudan. The reopening was marked by the landing of a Badr Airlines civilian aircraft, signaling the return of civil aviation to the capital.

The announcement came despite recent drone attacks reportedly launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in an attempt to disrupt the reopening.

In a statement, the airport administration confirmed:

“A Badr Airlines aircraft landed a short while ago at Khartoum International Airport, officially inaugurating the airport and marking the resumption of air traffic from the capital.”

Authorities described the event as a major step toward recovery of the aviation sector. The airport had sustained heavy damage during clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF in April 2023. Following the army’s recapture of Khartoum, repairs and rehabilitation were launched as part of efforts to restore normal life in the capital.
