Sudan has deported thousands of South Sudanese as joint forces enforce immigration laws and clear informal settlements amid war. Many deportees grew up in the north and have little connection to South Sudan.
Juba-based media condemned the removals and urged a firm response, with some voices calling the actions inhumane.
Khartoum officials say the operation targets all undocumented foreigners, not one nationality. Retired Maj. Gen. Salah Al-Din Doshka argues Sudan acted lawfully and humanely.
