Sudan’s Civil Defense evacuated more than 500 families from Wad Ramli, north of Khartoum, after heavy floods struck the area on Tuesday. According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, floodwaters submerged several houses and posed growing risks to surrounding communities.
Local youth groups were seen working to reinforce homes by building makeshift sand barriers, though efforts were hampered by a lack of resources.
The Sudanese News Agency reported that Kamal Awad al-Karim, Khartoum’s acting executive director, toured flood-prone neighborhoods along the White and Blue Nile, including Rumaila, al-Azouzab, Daajib, and Tuti.
Awad al-Karim assured residents that authorities remain on alert, emphasizing that the situation is currently under control but could change if water levels rise. He urged the public to immediately report any changes in Nile levels to the local emergency system to reduce damage.
