Sudan Secures Chinese Transformers to Boost Power Grid

Sudan has signed a contract with China’s XD Company to supply seven large transformers in a move aimed at stabilizing its struggling electricity sector.

The agreement, concluded in Cairo with the participation of Energy Minister Moatasem Ibrahim, underscores Sudan’s reliance on Chinese partnerships in infrastructure and energy. Ibrahim described the deal as critical for improving supply reliability, urging quick delivery despite the complexity of producing such equipment.

Officials say the new transformers will improve transmission from power plants to communities, especially in areas where displaced families are resettling. XD Company has committed to fast-tracking the order.

The deal reflects broader Sudan–China cooperation, particularly in electricity and oil, where past collaborations have shaped much of Sudan’s energy development.
